The annual Black Swamp Hot Rodz run is the first event of the year in my locale – so its not to be missed. It always brings out the great Kiwi Summer weather plus an amazing selection of cars.
I think the event topped out at over 130 entries (given that’s all the forms/tags Sandy had made 🙂 ) – so by all accounts the best turnout ever.
On my way to Mangawhai School for the first part of the days shenanigans, I cruised up behind a 1964 Chev Impala (Reg: AC668) and a 1958 Dodge Kingsway (Reg: BIG58) who were in convoy and taking it easy. It was a great sight to see these cars on NZ roads and they were clearly enjoying the scenery and soaking up the experience.
Mangawhai School parkup, food stop, general oggling and pre-run briefing is definitely worth a look – as at this point all of the cars are there, no ones got lost or stopped for a long lunch anywhere (yet).
I left a little before the run started at 10:45am and headed to Laings Beach in order to find a nice backdrop for the cruising cars (photos in my next blog entry). It was an awesome sight which I will cover off in the next day or so.
An amazing procession of cars made it through Laings Beach and up to Waipu Cove – lunch stop optional there. Cold beer at the local pubs often see the run get a little truncated at this point 🙂 And who can blame them.
The cruise heads back to Sandy’s place in Black Swamp Road for music, dancing, swimming, bbqs and cold refreshments, plus more time to check out the mint cars under the trees.
